William ('Bill') Wright, RGI (1931-2016) was a well-known Scottish painter in oil, acrylic, mixed media and mainly watercolour, born in Glasgow and raised in Partick, where his father worked in the shipyard. Bill Wright studied art at the Glasgow School of Art 1949-53 under Gilbert Spencer and James Bateman. He exhibited his work at the Royal Glasgow Institute, from 1952 on, with the Royal Scottish Academy in 1961, at the Society of Scottish Artists as a member, regularly with the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, to which society he was elected a member in 1977, and he showed his work overseas as well. Bill Wright often found his subjects on the Mull of Kintyre where he worked regularly for some fifty years. He had solo shows at Strathclyde University and at Perth Museum and Art Gallery and his work is represented on the Art UK website (under Bill Wright).
