William Sidney Causer, RI, RBSA, RSMA, NS (1876-1958) was a well-known painter of landscapes, coastal and urban scenes in both oil and watercolour. He was born in Wolverhampton and studied art firstly at Wolverhampton School of Art, then in London and later in Italy. Causer exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1923, at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1924, New English Art Club from 1928, Royal Society of Marine Artists from 1948, the National Society, Paris Salon, and other leading galleries. He held solo shows at the Leger Gallery and at the Fine Art Society in London. Causer painted widely in Spain immediately prior to the Civil War and was forced to leave the country in some haste. He also painted often in France and Italy and along the coasts of Sussex, Kent and Devon. He is represented in several public collections. Causer settled in London in the mid 1920s and lived in Kensington & Chelsea until his death.
