Title: Back of the Terrace, London

Description: An original etching of a London urban scene, possibly in or near to the Maida Vale area where the artist lived from 1939 until 1954, when he and his wife moved to Camberwell. It is signed in pencil 'Doitch' lower right and lower left the work is numbered from a small edition of 25 prints. During the 1940s Eric Doitch was better known as a printmaker than a painter and we think this etching is probably from the late 1940s or the early 1950s. It has been remounted and framed professionally in Devon within the past few years. The etching does have visible signs of foxing in the margins (an age-related process that causes spots and browning of old paper) which, now that the work has been rehoused in a new frame, shouldn't deteriorate in future.

Size: About 14.7 x 11.2 inches (375mm x 284mm) plate size and 22.9 x 18.5 inches in its frame (583mm x 470mm) .
