Michael Stokoe (1933-2021) is a well-known painter, printmaker and teacher. He was born in London and studied art at St Martin's School of Art in London 1953-57. Stokoe exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy 1960-64 and in the period 1972-86 he mainly showed prints at the RA. He also exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, London Group, Young Contemporaries, Redfern Gallery, Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol, and at the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition. He had several solo shows solo including at Bear Lane Gallery in Oxford and Drian Galleries in London. He taught at Ravensbourne College of Design, 1966-96. His work is held in a number of public collections, including the Government Art Collection and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and in galleries in Hull, Leeds, Liverpool and Paris. He was a member of The Printmakers Council.
