Ray Barry (1931-2022) was a well-known painter in oil and acrylic of abstracts, based in Cornwall for many years. He was educated at Clapham College and then at Goldsmiths College in south-east London. He worked initially as an engineer in Africa and the Middle East and returned home in 1968, settling in Cornwall where from 1970 he ran the ICON and Collector Galleries in the town of Penzance. Ray Barry then studied at the Open University and in 1997 he gained a Fine Art BA (Hons) degree at Falmouth School of Art. He exhibited his paintings widely in Cornwall, including at The Salthouse Gallery, St Ives; Newlyn Orion; Falmouth Arts Club; Three Spires, Truro; Penwith Society of Artists; St Ives Society of Artists; Mariners Gallery, St Ives; Open Studios, Cornwall and also at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, and at the Northern Art Show.
