Peter J. E. Matthews (born 1948) is a well-known painter, printmaker and lecturer on art. He was born in Prittlewell, near Southend-on-Sea and he studied art at Farnham College of Art in Surrey 1967-70, at Bristol Polytechnic 1970-73, and Reading University 1973-75. The artist has exhibited extensively, including at the Royal Academy 1972-74, at the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol 1975; New 57 Gallery, Edinburgh 1978; Richard Demarco Gallery, Edinburgh 1980; Piccadilly Gallery, London 1984; CCA Gallery, Bath 1990; Portsmouth City Art Gallery 1999; Bath Society of Artists 2011; and Fisherton Mill Gallery, Salisbury 2018. His work is represented in Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and Portsmouth Museums. He lives in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
