Piers R Morris (also known as Noah Morris) was a painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He worked in London in the late 1940s and early 1950s, initially in a representational style, and later turned to more abstract work after he had been influenced by French art of the period, including by the artist and teacher Henri Goetz (1909-1989). Morris lived in Paultons Square, London SW3, and married in Chelsea in 1955. Subsequently in about 1957 he settled in Paris to further his career as an artist and we believe he had several solo exhibitions there, including at Galerie Mariac in the prestigious Faubourg Saint-Honore, Paris 8, where he showed oil paintings, drawings, and paintings in tempera and gouache in February 1959. At that time in Paris he was simply known professionally as ‘Morris’ but was to soon style himself as ‘Noah Morris’ and later as just ‘Noah’. Morris remained in Paris until at least 1965 and by the latter part of the 1960s he had returned to London, where he opened an art dealership, The Piers Morris Gallery, which focused on contemporary artists.

The collection of work we hold is mainly, but not exclusively, from the artist’s Paris studio. The French work is stamped ‘Atelier Morris’ as provenance, whereas the earlier English work is unstamped. A number of the works are signed and dated, some of those made in France have his ‘Noah’ monogram. All are guaranteed to be by Piers Morris (Noah Morris).

The collection has been in storage for a long period of time. We are offering it in ‘as found’ condition and all but two of the paintings are unframed. We have tried to highlight any condition faults in the individual item descriptions.

In addition to the works shown we have other paintings and drawings by the artist. Images will be supplied gladly on request. Discounts are available for multiple purchases.
